Bluthner name on piano fall in brass using a stylised font

This Bluthner piano has high piano cheeks with carved egg and dart detail. This design is repeated on the carved stretcher that supports the piano lyre. The lyre sits on two square central pillars. Intricate marquetry inlay in a panel above the keyboard in ovals and squares in a variety of coloured woods.

The music desk is in a cut-out geometric filigree design with an inlaid central oval panel.

The lid of this Bluthner piano is inlaid with square tessellated marquetry. A central diamond in satinwood is surrounded by tessellated jacaranda squares in alternating wood grains for contrast.

The instrument of this Bluthner piano is fully restored.

With the lid down, the amazing variety of marquetry inlay designs in coloured woods around the piano cabinet are apparent.

This inlaid strip runs around the bottom of the piano case.

The craftsmanship required for this inlay is incredible. Here large circles of darker wood are interspersed with smaller circles of lighter wood and attached by sinuous lines.
